An invitation to bounded cohomology

چکیده
A selection of aspects of the theory of bounded cohomology is presented. The emphasis is on questions motivating the use of that theory as well as on some concrete issues suggested by its study. Specific topics include rigidity, bounds on characteristic classes, quasification, orbit equivalence, amenability. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000). Primary 55N; Secondary 20F.

The Second Bounded Cohomology of an Amalgamated Free Product of Groups
We study the second bounded cohomology of an amalgamated free product of groups, and an HNN extension of a group. As an application, we show that a group with infinitely many ends has infinite dimensional second bounded cohomology.

An extension of bornological algebras with a bounded linear section gives rise to a six term exact sequence of the associated periodic and entire cyclic cohomology groups. 1. A typical example is the collection of bounded subsets of a locally convex vector space. A bornological alg...
متن کاملRemarks on and around Bounded Differential Forms
Various exotic cohomology groups can be defined by imposing boundedness conditions on cochains. This note discusses what happens if we impose boundedness conditions in the standard deRham complex of differential forms on a Riemannian manifold and surveys relations of the resulting bounded deRham cohomology to bounded cohomology and l∞-cohomology.
